Two bills that would require members of the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District board to be elected instead of being appointed are making their way through the Texas Legislature. After the unanimous vote April 20, the bill is now with the state Senate, where it is awaiting a hearing. According to the district’s website, it works both sides of what it terms a “tricky” application to ensure that the amount of groundwater that is pumped does not exceed the amount of water that is replenished.
