Drought conditions returning to Texas amid dry winter spell | Statesman | 1-25-18

No, it?s not your imagination. It?s dry out there. In fact, Texas is experiencing the most severe drought the state has seen since October 2015. Nearly half the state is in some level of drought, with an additional 35 percent experiencing abnormally dry conditions. By contrast, less than 2 percent of the state was in drought three months ago, and about 3 percent of the state had drought conditions a year ago.

Appeal of judge?s ruling on Bastrop groundwater issue up in the air | AAS | 1-18-18

A battle over groundwater rights in Bastrop County marches on. On Wednesday, the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District delayed a decision on whether to appeal a state district judge?s ruling that will allow a group of landowners to challenge a permit to withdraw 15 billion gallons of groundwater annually from the Simsboro formation of the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer.
